Wet Ground Under a New Town
Hydroseeding in Bolingbrook begins with drainage, because much of the village is built on the Gateway Wetlands, which run from Downers Grove to just north of Joliet. Bolingbrook was incorporated in 1965 as a new town, starting with the Westbury subdivision west of Route 53 and Colonial Village on the east side, and grew quickly through mass annexation in the 1970s.
What wetland ground means for a lawn
Former wetland soils tend to hold water, stay soft in spring and settle unevenly over time. A low spot that holds water for days will drown new seed. Before hydroseeding, we fix the grade so water moves to a swale or inlet, and in stubborn spots our grading crew can trench for drain tile.
Aging neighborhoods
By the 1980s and 1990s Bolingbrook was Will County's second-largest town after Joliet. Many original lawns are now decades old. Yards have settled, trees have grown and patches have died out. Lawn renovation here usually means leveling low spots with topsoil, then overseeding with a hydroseed mix so the mulch keeps the new seed moist.
River plain habitat nearby
Hidden Oaks Nature Center, opened in 2009, protects 80 acres of woodland and river plain. The Des Plaines River lies east of the village, and both branches of the DuPage River meet at Knoch Knolls Park near the Naperville border. Lots near these areas often see higher water after big storms, which influences seed choice.
Weather
The village averages about 39.94 inches of precipitation a year, with July highs averaging around 84 degrees. Seeding in early fall avoids the worst summer heat on wet, heavy ground.

Bolingbrook Questions
Water sits in my Bolingbrook yard after every rain. Can you seed it?
We fix the grade or add drain tile first. Seeding a spot that ponds just wastes seed.
Why does my lawn have dips and low spots?
Former wetland soils settle unevenly. We fill low areas with topsoil before overseeding.
What grass handles wet ground best?
Blends heavier in tall fescue tend to tolerate wet spells better than pure bluegrass; we choose by site.
Do you renovate lawns in the original 1960s neighborhoods?
Yes, regrading, topsoil and overseeding are the most common jobs there.
